Tampico United Methodist Church celebrates Mardi Gras 2010. Bright colored wagons are decorated and filled with beads and candies. On Sunday, the children parade through the sanctuary before the serves and pass out their beads and candy. Ballons and "Bourbon Street" decorations add to the ambiance.

Reagan 99th Birthday w/Michael Reagan 2010

Tampico had their annual birthday celebration for Ronald Reagan. Feb. 6, 2010 would have been his 99th birthday and his eldest son, Michael, visited Tampico on his Reagan Trail Tour, sponsored by the Ronald Reagan Development for Ronald Reagan Leadership Program & Ronald Reagan Museum at Eureka College.

2007 CHRISTMAS IN THE COUNTRY

December 1, 2007 - Even an ice-storm could not keep the community away! Christmas caroling in Reagan Park, a live nativity in the south yard of the historical society were all brought indoors in the Community Bldg. Santa arrived by Firetruck, the town trees were lit, and hot chocolate, BBQ, hot dogs and cookies were enjoyed by many who braved the storm to enjoy these annual festivites.

You have to know about it or you would not see/find it! Section 33 - 7 miles south of 2500N & 300E on west side of road. Established 1872 18N sec 33, Fairfield Township, NE SE Not active. Many thanks to Roy & Mary Lou Haney for taking us on this cemetery expedition! Transcriptions provided by Sandra Kennedy & Carol Shipp of the Bureau Co. Genealogical Society (1992), and local resident, Bob Johnson of Thomas, IL. Cemetery is well maintained.

Giving Tree Tea Party - July 07

The Tampico Giving Tree sponsored an old fashioned tea party in Reagan Park for girls ages 4 - 10. Sweet tea, cookes and pastries were served. They came dressed in their fanciest attire and hats - or they chose dress-up itmes from boxes of accessories provided by the Giving Tree. This included sparkly high-heeled shoes, feather boas, and make-up. Prizes were awared for most original, funniest and any other catagory thought of, so that each child received a gift at some point. Fun games of "gossip," a relay race, and musical chairs were also played. PHOTOGRAPHY: Tim McLoughlin

Booth Park

T.A.R.P. - Tampico Area Revitilization Project organized in 2005. Originally a vision of Ruth Adams and carried on by LaMonica Henrekin, Shirley Lester and Linda Brown. They inspired the community, and rekindled a sense of pride in our town. Area businesses donated materials, citizens offered their time and labor, and the village of Tampico contributed $20,000 towards playground equipment for Booth Park. In June, 2007, it all came together with the help of many volunteers. Our kids now have a beautiful new playground, with modular slides, tire swing, skateboard and bike ramps. If you build it . . . .they will come. . . .

REAGAN PARK

Reagan Park is a beautiful, tranquil and historic park at the SW edge of town. The views from the gazebo are "reminiscent" of an era long gone. To the south, you can see the founding father of Tampico's home, which is next door to Ronald Reagan's boyhood home. To the east, you can see "Pig Alley" and the stockyards; to the north is the grain elevator and is also the direction where the old depot was located. To the west is the Soldiers' Monument, erected in 1907. Just beyond it is where the Electric Light Plant and the old Phillips 66 were. The Electric Plant is gone, but the "66" building is now a private residence. Prominent citizens are memorialized with name plates on the benches strategically placed throughout the park. All of it says, "Welcome to our little corner of the world."
